On an entirely insignificant Tuesday evening in the spring of 2020, amid a global pandemic, mask mandates and toilet paper shortages, two people decided to mindlessly swipe the time away on Tinder. Unknown to them at the time, that Tuesday was the day that the rest of their lives would truly begin.
Swipe right. "IT'S A MATCH!"
Kyle and Becca excitedly pursued each other, as millennials do, by texting back and forth to decide if they actually liked each other or not. But after several days of talking from sun-up to sun-down about everything under the sun, it was already more than obvious to them both that they needed to meet. The only trouble was that every single public place at which a couple might plan a first date was indefinitely closed due to COVID-19. So, Kyle shared his address and offered to cook Becca dinner.
After weighing her mental pros and cons list of the possibilities that could occur when meeting a stranger from the internet at his house while the entire world was on lockdown, she hesitantly agreed. However, she sent his pictures, phone number and address to her mom and best friend – just to cover her bases in case she was never seen or heard from again. But deep down, they both felt confident that they were opening a door to something extraordinary and that simply couldn't be ignored or delayed.
Their date was absolutely perfect in all it's simplicity. They talked. They laughed. They ate good steaks. They shotgunned beers. Then they sat around a backyard campfire, enjoying each other’s company as the hours effortlessly melted away into the early morning.
They dove into love headfirst that night and never looked back - and thus the adventure ensued!
Cut to nearly 3 years later, on the afternoon of February 11, 2023, Kyle went out to run some errands. When he got home, it was obvious that something was affecting him - anxiety, perhaps. He was sweating and fumbling over his words. Becca knew something was up, but it wasn't clear what was bothering him.
Then Kyle spoke.
"I've spent so much time thinking about how I'd do this and what would be most impactful. And of all the places I thought of, I kept coming back to our home. This is the place where we've made memories, where we've gone through hard times and come out the other side. This is the place where we've built a life and our love, together."
With tears in his eyes, he dropped to one knee in the middle of the kitchen and pulled a ring out of his pocket.
"Will you marry me?"
Becca dropped to the floor with him, in absolute disbelief that it was really happening. Taking his face in her hands, she repeated, "Are you serious?" and "Is this a joke?"
Kyle placed the ring on her finger as she let out the most confident "Yes" that had ever left her lips. They cried. They kissed. They called their closest family and friends to share the news of the forthcoming nuptials. Then they spent the night celebrating their love with friends.
From falling in love in a world on lockdown, to a proposal in the middle of the home they created together, Kyle and Becca were seemingly destined for one another and wouldn't have it any other way!
